Dairo Suga and Seiji Tada at Jazz Flash in Niigata (March 7th, 2015)

Since I came back to Japan, I have had several opportunities to see Berklee grad musicians.  I honestly can not believe that I graduated from same college.

When I was in Berklee, I saw him few times.  I remembered that I was in the elevator with him once.  We were talking about upcoming exams, and that was I think the only time that I spoke with him.  I also saw his performance in Berklee.  There was an event called, Cafe show, at the Berklee's cafeteria.  There was even a grand piano there.  I do not remember the name of the cafeteria.... something like Cog.
He blew me away.  It was very strong performance.  His performance was still vivid in my memory.  The drummer that I was friends with was really really good.  I was not familiar with this pianist's style.  It was a mixture of Free jazz, classic and everything.

Dairo Suga is a pianist from Berklee and he came to Niigata with the alto saxphone player, Seiji Tada last Saturday.  I went to listen to their duo performance.  They were very energetic!  Mr. Suga had the same or stronger energy yet he was soft in the other sense.  He composed some pieces for the old japanese poems.   It touched my heart.  It was my first time to listen to Mr. Tada. His melody was clean and beautiful. I felt that He was capable of playing anything.
He was singing Mr. Suga's composition, "Amenimo Makezu".  He sang without any problem, but i heard it was very difficult after the show.

Mr. Dairo Suga is bringing his trio and coming to Niigata again in 6/1 at the same place, Jazz flash.  
Everyone! Please come to listen to his trio!

日本に帰って来てからバークリー卒業の素晴らしいミュージシャンに出会う機会が多々あります。自分が同じ場所にいて卒業したなんて本当信じられないです笑。

そのピアニストの方と私はほとんど会った事はなく、一度学校のエレベータで一緒になって近くにあるテストの事など話した事があったというのは憶えています。

一度、バークリーでよくあったカフェショーというイベントでそのピアニストの方が弾いているのを見た事があって、それは鮮明に私の中に残っています。バークリーの学生食堂のスペースを使ってライブをするこのイベント。グランドピアノも置いてありました。
彼の演奏はフリージャズのスタイルを取り入れた彼独自の演奏という感じでした。その時に私も良く一緒に演奏させてもらっていたドラマーの方が演奏していて本当素晴らしかった のも憶えています。

スガダイローさんはバークリー出身のピアニストで、先週の土曜日に新潟のジャズフラッシュにアルトサックスの多田誠司さんといらっしゃいました。すごい力強い演奏でしたがダイローさんが宮沢賢治の詩に作曲をした作品はすごく優しい懐かしい感じのする作品でした。多田誠司さんの演奏を聴くのは初めてでした。綺麗で無駄のないメロディーは何でも弾きこなせる音楽職人という感じでした。スガダイローさんの作曲した”雨ニモマケズ”をさらりと歌ったのですが、後で歌うのは難しい曲だと聞きました。
とにかくスゴいお二人でした。

スガダイローさんは今度は自身のトリオで６／１月曜日にジャズフラッシュに来ます。
皆さん！是非行きましょう。 素晴らしいですよ。
